Catherine - My Mum is a rather selfless individual. I often joke that my Mum was put on this earth to have children. It was her vocation, her greatest joy and her purpose. She raised four children, and has always put them and her husband (the love of her life) before herself.

I am the youngest of her four children. I live alone, I have no children, and I do not know the energy and effort that it takes to run a home, be a wife and be a mother all at the same time. Yet I do have the utmost respect for those that do it. I am of the generation that encourages self-care, mindfulness, time for yourself for your physical and mental well being. Work out, eat well, Everything in moderation. I am able to adopt this life-style due to the luxury of time and the ability to be selfish in my decisions.

Yet, as I look to my Mum, and her selflessness, I know that she never thought twice about her own needs while raising her family, and displays these traits to this day, as a wife, a mother and now a grandmother. What she has taught me is to always think of others and help out where I can. I have the luxury of time that my mother never had, and can use it wisely to give to others and support others in a way that my Mum gave her time, her energy and her love to us.

What I find glorious about this story is that my Mum, at the healthy age of 78, has started to show some changes in her life. Two years ago she joined a slimmers club, and she loves it. Every week she takes time for herself to go and meet with her new friends, and to check in. She has lost weight, she is taking care of herself and taking time for herself. I am so proud of her. Perhaps she and I inspire each other?

Tony - Is there where I enter the competition? If so- my Mum was very funny ( in a weird sort of way) and very kind. She had time for everyone.
